About Bev New Advanced PGA Professional

Golfing Career

I started winning at around 16 years old; the Somerset Girls Championship and the South-West Girls Championship sometime during the 1970’s. I won the Somerset Ladies Championship 8 times between the years 1980 and 2007. In 1980 I was the youngest winner of the English Ladies Championship at Aldburgh Golf club in Suffolk which started me on the road to playing numerous times for England as an under 21 and full international. I had various other victories between 1980 and 1984 winning a professional event at Walmley Golf Club, Birmingham in 1982 and playing in the victorious Great Britain and Ireland team against the Continent of Europe at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire in 1983 and then playing in the narrowly beaten Curtis Cup team at Muirfield, Scotland in 1984.

In June 1984 I turned professional and embarked on the European Ladies Tour learning to play for a living. Playing the Futures Tour in 1986 in the States, I secured my first professional tour win and later on that year the highlight was a final round of -9 at Royal Birkdale in the Ladies British Open to finish 4th. In 1987 I visited the Far East for the first time and managed to win the Thailand Ladies Open, and this with a couple of runner up places in Singapore and Taiwan I decided I loved playing in this part of the world. The following year, 1988, I won the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumper and had another good Far East tour. Later that year I found my first win in Europe in the Caldy Classic on the Wirral. Seven more years I spent playing the European tour and then I decided to try my hand at other things.

In May 2012 I returned to my home club where I started, Lansdown Golf Club, Bath and here I have worked on building up a consistent pupil base consisting of all ages, genders and standards of golf.  I am constantly updating my teaching skills and knowledge by attending PGA seminars throughout the year. I was also one of 24 coaches that coached at the Men’s British Open, Hoylake in 2014.
